"Sweet Series" By Myo The Paper Products and Dora Ong

Myo.The Paper Products proudly presents its latest collection, “Sweet Memories”, a collaboration with up-and-coming watercolor painter from Singapore, Dora Ong.

Together with Myo.The Paper Products Creative Director Gary Tan, Dora Ong has recreated and reinterpreted a selection of forgotten and iconic consumer products enjoyed throughout East Asia from as early as the 1920s, right through to the 1980s. Displaying her masterful watercolor skills and the creative use of vivid colors, Dora Ong has brought to life the inspiring memories of the old times, evoking the nostalgic beauty by times gone by.

The description of each theme under the “Sweet Memories”
Childhood (“童年” in Chinese) is inspired from old-time favourite sweets, stationary and toys. It harks back to experiences growing up as a child, whether at school using the rubber eraser or enjoying a simple lollipop during recess hours. These little things that were part of you those formative years can still bring laughter and joyful recollection of those times.  These images are vivid in their colours, making this the ideal wrapper for any celebration for the young or young at heart.

The Golden Years (“花样年华” in Chinese) assembles the glamorous and most seductive side of Asian beauty. Some of the highlight objects including 1930s face powder, packaged in a timeless classy cosmetic box, as well as the decadent opium pipe, imported perfume and delicate handmade Chinese fan.  The arresting collage of all these delicate items are at its best as wrapping paper or a little gift greeting card for your loved ones.

For Him (“给他” in Chinese) is tailored for the charismatic man, travelling the world with his classic European-made accessories. No sophisticated man of yesteryear can travel without his leather-made suitcase and top hat to compliment his sense of style. For him, no gift or occasion is complete without including the best-looking gift wrapper and greeting cards that best illustrate his sensibility and lifestyle.

The cooperation between Dora Ong and Myo.The Paper Products represents the fusion of the theme of timeless memories with the concept of beautiful, tailor-made stationary made out of premium quality paper. “MYO” is an adaptation from the Chinese character (pronounced as “Miao), embraces all things beautiful, charming and graceful. 

Myo Designs arose from the collaboration of two friends from South East Asia who shared a passion for their Chinese heritage and wanted to depict traditional Chinese art in a creative and modern interpretation. After years of having to purchase paper products and greeting cards from overseas, they decided to create their own line using high quality paper.

Dora Ong Introduction
Dora Ong hails from an artistic family background. She has gained her skills in art from her master, Mr Ong Kim Seng, a reputable watercolor artist from Singapore.

Dora Ong who is also known by many as 'Dorabie', is very bubbly and yet can be awkwardly serious. An arts-loving person, she also loves painting, sewing and singing. It was only recently that she found again her long lost passion for drawing.

Her drawings have shown affection for her favourite things and favourite foods. Her medium is usually watercolor, pencil and ink. Dora interpreted her work with simplicity. She once mentioned that, "When I paint, my world stopped revolving, I entered a new dimension, a new realm. At that moment it was just my painting and myself. This is how dear my drawing is to me. To have a piece of my drawing is equally having a piece of me…"

In this series she paints subjects that were mostly long forgotten by our generation. Each painting has been framed with handmade timber frames to add a nostalgic look and feel to the painting,
